Uttrakhand floods – How you can help


We all know about recent floods in Uttrakhand state which caused loss of thousands of lives and hundreds of crores of property, thousands of people are stranded in mountains without any food and money.
Various NGOs, Volunteers, Governments are trying their best to help the people in the affected areas but it wouldn’t be possible without the help of us – the citizens of India.
To lend a helping hand, you can donate money, food, clothes, medicines and other necessary items to the affected people through various helping programmes run by various organizations, news channels, governments etc.

I have compiled a list of various organizations, websites etc to start with.

  • You can also try the Google Person Finder Project .
    Google has started a nice initiative to help people locate the missing ones.
    If you have information about someone, you can share it here and also search through their database for the person you are looking for.
  • Surya Hopes - It is a website launched by Indian army for the people to keep a track on the rescued peoples and current rescue operations going in the valley.
  • Contact Numbers of Various District Officers - Here you’ll find Contact numbers and Email-ids of various district officers in case of emergency.

iVolunteer -

They are looking for donation in form of money, and Volunteers. If you are willing to help the flood victims by volunteering in various rescue and help operations, iVolunteer can be a good place to start with.

Goonj -

Apart from monetary contributions, one can also donate foods, clothes, Tarpaulins, mosquito nets, Dry ration, cooking utensils, lanterns and other neccessary items.
You can also help with the logistics support to help carry the items to the victims.

Apart from various NGOs, many locals are also comming forward to help the victims.

If you want to lend a helping hand, contact Mr. Tilak Soni – a local from Uttarkashi, he is also trying his best to help the people in need by collecting and supplying various food items, ration, biscuits, clothes, blankets and other neccessary items.

Also, If you have an online SBI account then one can do a NEFT directly through that account as well. Login to onlinesbi -> Payment Transfers -> make donations. From the drop down, select Disaster Management Relief fund (Uttarakhand) or PMNRF, etc.

Other ways you can help -

Apart from donating money or food items, there are more ways through which you can help the flood victims.
If you have some empty space in your house, you can talk with many NGOs to provide your home as dropping center for necessary items.

If you have an SUV and want to help, you can contact Dr. Amit deol, a local from srinagar (uttrakhand), to provide your SUV in transporting food and other neccessary items to remote places of uttraknad.
